It is estimated that 60% of Nairobi’s population lives in the various slums of Nairobi, of which Kibera is the largest. Garbage is thrown out into the streets, where it piles up for others to pick through. The majority of the land occupied by Kibera is government land and thus the occupants are technically squatters. However houses are still sold and rented on this property. The homes are made of plaster, mud, and metal.
